How to use the site

Information is generally based around a 'place', which can be a region, province, comarca (county), city, town or village.

  • To see a specific place - type its name into the "Type a placename" box (selecting the name when you see it appear) - the page for that place will be displayed with tabs for information.
  • To browse down through a region - click the "Locations" button and start selecting, or click on the map (hover to see the region's name).

For activities and accomodation - click on the relevant menu button and you will see a list of types of activity/accomodation together with a list places where they occur. Click on the place name for more details.

If you can't find what you are looking for, please let us know (use the menu item Contact Us). We'd also like to hear any comments you'd care to make.

The Dream

It's most peoples dream as envisaged by oh, so many, TV programmes - a house of our own in the Sun; sitting on the terrace with a glass in one hand while admiring the view. There are basically two ways to achieve this, namely, either buying an existing property or building your own house and it is this latter which will be covered here. This blog will take us on a journey from dream to reality, I'll try to explain the do's and don't's, the pitfalls, the (I'm sorry to say) absolute lies from unscrupulous sellers of land and their agents, and hope to refute or confirm the myths you will hear from "some man in the bar" (most of whom are guessing and/or know nothing about the subject).

So let's start by making something extremely clear .. this is not second-hand information, this is not guess work nor is it opinion, this is the actual story of our own house build here in Spain, and at the time of writing it's work in progress. The initial post or two will cover what's happened so far and then it'll be live, warts and all!

We've lived here for over eight years and really love this part of Spain (Valencia) and it was while house-sitting half-way up a mountain that we realised that we didn't want to live in a village anymore but out in the countryside, or as it's called here, the "campo". so we started looking for some suitable land, and that will be the subject of the next post.
